Masquerade Ball

A night of glamour
A night of enchantment
A night of splendor
The MUHS Junior-Senior Prom

With the theme Strangers in the Night, Misamis Union High School held its annual Promenade last February 23, 2013 at Casa Esperanza.  The event was held to expose their students to social gatherings and teach them how to behave appropriately in such events.  From the word itself promenade, the students walked with grace and finesse showcasing themselves in their most impressive get-up.
Albeit the impression that the prom was just about the extravagant ball gowns and fancy masquerade masks, it was actually an event of customs and traditions.  One of these is the turn-over of the key of responsibility.  The key of responsibility symbolizes the authority of the seniors to take charge over the whole student population of MUHS.  This means that seniors must act as role models for the younger ones.  They must conduct themselves well in public, show proper behavior, and obey school rules and regulations.  In this way, the younger students would imitate them thus creating harmonious relationships within the campus.
Senior Class President Darylle Jade Cabataña and Junior Class President Chanel Rose Baluyos
Another tradition is the exchange of candles and roses.  The juniors gave the seniors roses as tokens for their journey to a new chapter in their lives.  As the seniors leave the campus for their upcoming college adventure, they were given remembrances to bring along with them wherever they will go.  Meanwhile, the seniors gave the juniors candles as light to their path.  This served as the juniors' guide on how to become good leaders next in line.
Additionally, there was also the reading of the class history and class will by the seniors.  The class history told their story from preschool to senior high.  It was about their triumphs and defeats throughout their schooling years in MUHS.  On the other hand, the class will stated what the seniors would want the juniors to inherit from them.  It could be a certain thing, a hobby, or an attitude.  The point was to show that despite their differences, the two classes relate to each other somehow.

Class Will Read by Hannah Joy Lim
Nevertheless, the prom could not be a prom without the much awaited Cotillion de Honor.  The ball dance provided a platform for the youngsters to practice social grace.  It also taught them conversational skills, proper coordination, and how to conduct formal interaction with the opposite sex.
Another highlight of the event was the singing of the JS song which symbolizes friendship.  The song was their real-life theme song just like in movies, some kind of a national anthem for their kin, or an alma mater song for their class.  It was something to hum in the future to bring back sweet teenage memories.
And of course, the bestest must be awarded accordingly.  With the scrutinizing eyes of our judges, the deserving ones garnered the major awards.

My Prom Song

Prom night is for ball gowns.  Prom night is for cotillion de honor.  Prom night is for love songs.  Prom night is a date with your first love.  But prom night for me brings a sentimental longing for the past.

In times like this, I remember more of him.  The night of secret glancing, the night of secret yearning, and the night of secret loving.  A love forbidden, a love untimely, a love unjust.....

As I am writing this now, I couldn't help the tears from falling.  It's still him and him alone.  Him and his smile, him and his jokes, him and his nonsense!

But he's long been gone, he's long been lost.  A lost love that I was so scared fighting for.

Exactly at this very hour under the moonlit sky, I reminisce the most precious moment of my life!  Posting this at exactly 12:51 AM, here's my prom song dedicated only to him.....

Krissy and Ericka

I'm scrolling through my cellphone for the 20th time today
I'm reading the text you sent me again
Though I memorized it anyway

It was an afternoon in December
When it reminded you of the day
When we bumped into each other
But you didn't say hi coz I looked away

And maybe that was the biggest mistake of my life
And maybe I haven't moved on since that night

Cause it's 12:51 and I thought my feelings were gone
But I'm lying on my bed thinking of you again
And the moon shines so bright but I gotta dry these tears tonight
Cause you're moving on and I'm not that strong to hold on any longer

And I saw you with her
Didn't think you would find another
And my world just seemed to crush
Shouldn't have thought that this would last

And maybe that was the biggest mistake of my life
And maybe I haven't moved on since that night

Cause it's 12:51 and I thought my feelings were gone
But I'm lying on my bed thinking of you again
And the moon shines so bright but I gotta dry these tears tonight
Cause you're moving on and I'm not that strong to hold on any longer

As the sky outside gets brighter
And my eyes begin to tire
I'm slowly drowning

The memories of him
And I know it shouldn't matter
As my heart begins to shatter
I'm left to wonder
Just how it should have been

12:51 and I thought my feelings were gone
But I'm lying on my bed
I'm not thinking of you again
And the moon shines so bright but I gotta dry these tears tonight
Cause you're moving on and I'm not that strong to hold on
Cause I'll prove you wrong that I can move on through this song

Feature Friday: Jerome Artworks

Feature Friday highlights businesses, people, fashion, and basically anything under the sun!

Feature Friday was born for the purpose of showcasing Ozamiz businesses and Ozamiz talents.  In my quest to feature worthy ones, I had come across with a budding artist who happens to be my MUHS co-teacher's cousin and my colleague in Medina College.  So guys, may I have the honor to introduce to you, Mr. Jerome Lañohan Lirasan.

Jerome is a native Ozamiznon born on August 27, 1988.  He came from a family of photographers who owned Jimrose Studio during the 90's.  As a young boy, his parents taught him how to use the manual camera.  He found it very hard to do and he also witnessed how tough his parents' job is so he swore to himself that he'll never ever be a photographer.
But as he was taking up his BS in Computer Science degree in Medina College, someone hired him to do some Post Process on a picture.  He was amazed by the outcome and realized that he want to make more photos like that.  Thus, he ate his own word.  He then started taking photos, mostly portraits of people.

Right after graduation, he was hired at Medina College as a Graphic Artist.  And this inspired him  to focus more on photography.  Surprisingly, people started to discover his talents and hired him for some photo ops.  So as a sideline business, he engaged into pre-nuptial photography and here are samples of his photos:
From word of mouth, he eventually had the chance to cover an actual wedding day!  And this is not just photography.  Jerome also teamed up with his brothers, Jerson and James for videography and this became the start of Jerome Artworks.

As a newbie to the business world, Jerome does not see photography as a means to amass fortune.  He sees photography differently as he quipped, "As I embrace this type of career, I find out more of life and the beauty of it.  I like photography because it enables me to show my talent and skills.  Capturing every emotion and precious moment, showing what's behind every photo, and showing this to the world is what makes me more motivated and devoted to this career.  I love photography, it is now my life, and I start living it!"

7K Photography and Videography is now open to the public!  This package includes
  • Pre-Nuptial Photography with Make Up Artist (Marvel Deromol)
  • Photography and Videography on Actual Wedding Day
  • 50 3R-Sized Photos
  • 1 DVD of Video Pre-Nup and Picture Slideshow
All these for only P 7,000!  For bookings, just contact Jerome-09075088338, Annalyn-09321330242, and yours truly-09306350290.

Monday Matters: Prom Quick Tips (for Girls Only)

Monday Matters is dedicated to all things that matter.

Walking down the red carpet, dressing like a princess, dancing with your prince charming - just mere childhood fairy tale fantasies now coming to life as prom is now fast approaching!  Prom or promenade is a formal gathering of third year and fourth year high school students.  It is a tradition usually held by the end of every school year for the purpose of saying goodbye to the seniors and welcoming the juniors to take over.

On the other hand, prom also teaches students how to grace social events.  It is a once-in-a-lifetime occasion wherein every girl must don her best and be her best.  So here are some tips to all my excited girl students out there!

The Dress.  The dress plays the most important role in promenading.  Apart from deciding on what design and fabric to choose, pick the dress that best suits your personality.  If you're the prim and proper type, get something that is not too loud.  By saying loud, do away with showing much skin for you might not be comfortable with it.  If you're the fashionista type, make a statement by getting something of haute couture-class!  And there's no one else in town who could do that than Victor "Boyboy" Bersales Tusing of Versalez Creations
From L to R:  Carmel Theresa Lim, Gussie Yvonne Dolloso, and Darlene Jane Cabataña
The Shoes.  Next to prom dress, the shoes must be taken into much consideration.  Could it be Manolo, Louboutin, or Choo....  Nah, I'm just talking nonsense here.  Yes, they are luxurious shoes, but life is so short.  Go, buy that shoes!  (Naks naman, nagsalita ang can-afford!  Hehe)  Anyway, we're not Taylor Swift or Demi Lovato here.  Some shoes from our local shops would do.  What's important is, you can walk into 'em.  Practice walking and sashaying in those shoes so you won't trip over 'em and lose your poise.
World-Class and Elegant Yet Affordable Philippine-Made Shoes
The Accessories.  To glam up, accessorize appropriately.  When I say appropriately, do not overdo things.  If you already have chandelier earrings, do not wear a necklace anymore.  And if you already got a chunky necklace, do not wear earrings at all!  Just keep it simple and sweet.  Complement your accessories with your dress and shoes because

"the power of accessory is the ability to shape and transform any look". - Molly Sims of Project Accessory

The Hair and Make-Up.  The final touch-up is the hair and make-up.  Request your make-up artist for something not too mature.  On actual prom night, you don't want not to be recognized by your peers.  So just sheer make-up will do - a little of this, a little of that.  Flaunt your assets by enhancing what is essential like if you've already got tantalizing eyes, just put on a little eye shadow to show them off.  And there's only one Marvel Deromol who could bring out the beauty in you!
June Ann Olandesca and Cherry Mae Paran
The Escort.  Plenty of us couldn't choose our dashing prince.  But for those who'll ever get a chance to do so, pick someone who has the charisma or X-factor because this is an added bonus to your get-up.  He might not be some Coco Martin or Piolo Pascual but make sure that he can back you up the whole night through.
From L to R:  Jerry Kendrix Dolloso, Raphael Loreto, Michael Uy, and Al-Shariff Lim
There you have it!  I hope this will come in handy to you, girls.  Now be prepared to summon the spirits of Anne Curtis and Georgina Wilson and be your own goddess!  Prep up for that million photos waiting to be taken!
