Now I am jaded and overly engrossed!  I am confused with all the plentiest of things that I'm doing that I end up mixing 'em! Imagine that I'm teaching Ella the periodic table?!!!  I am now exhausted and ask myself why am I doing such conflicts of things!  
But then again, another someone told me to "relax and smile".  And here I go smiling by myself again!:)

Ozamiz City Fiesta 2012

July 16, 2012 marks the 64th City Charter Day of Ozamiz which is at the same time, the Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.  Contrary to common knowledge, pilgrims visit Cotta to pay homage to Nuestra Senora dela Concepcion del Triunfo who is the patron saint of Ozamiz rather than visiting the shrine of Our Lady of Mount Carmel at Carmelites Monastery, Malaubang.

Anyway, one of the highlights of the fiesta celebration is the Miss Ozamiz Tourism which was held last July 14, 2012 at the Medina Gymnaturium.  It had become a tradition of Fascino to give a special award.  And for the first time, the Miss Fascino for this year bagged the title of Miss Ozamiz 2012 who was the darling of the crowd, Miss Anjanette Amante.

After giving the award, me and my friends were starving!  We went to Gat's Bar to grab a bite but they don't serve food during the wee hours of the morning anymore.  We went to Across and they do the same thing.  (Oh, the not-so-happy hours of Ozamiz night life!)  So, we just ended up with our all-time favorite fastfood, Jollibee!

Three hours of sleep just past when we awoke with the beat of the drums for the Subayen Keg Subanon Festival!  Subanen are the natives of the Misamis land.  Until now, this tribal group joins the street-dancing around the city, showcasing their colorful costumes and indigenous dance moves!

On the actual feast day, the city parade was held in which Misamis Union High School took a big part of with their magnificent dragon and lion dance!  Apart from that, the pure Chinese Laoshi also graced the parade by marching under the heat of the sun with us!

This fiesta had been the most much-participated one for me!  With the activities that I had involved myself in, I'm looking forward for the next fiesta celebration in the city.  See you around for more Ozamiz festivities!:)

It's More Fun to Hike!

The sporty Red Roses supported the Keep on Running Keep 'em Smiling Fun Run organized by the Philippine Dental Association spearheaded by the Ozamiz City chapter president, Dr. Jun Anteola last July 8, 2012.  With the goal to give free surgery to the less fortunate kids with cleft lip and cleft palate in Ozamiz, the fun run started and ended at the City Hall ground with three designated tracks for the 3K, 5K, and 10K categories.

Together with the local government, various businesses, offices, and local organizations took part in the said fund-raising.  But nothing beats joining an activity for a cause if you're joyfully doing it with friends.  That through thick and thin during the journey, nobody's left behind.  So as a group, the Red Roses just turned it into a fun hike!   

The Red Roses may had finished last but what matters most is the bonding we had all the way! 

It was also great to see old friends!  A citywide event is just a way too better opportunity to catch up a bit than just getting updates through Facebook.

With the ladies in red, the Fun Run had painted the town red.  For who else could have turned it into a fun hike but only the beautiful Red Roses who keep on smiling no matter how exhausted they had become during the activity!

Whimsical Wednesday: Nostalgia

Whimsical Wednesday shows my fancy in a myriad of beautiful things.  

Nostalgic atmosphere hovering all over me as this song just popped out and played in my mind today.  I was in grade school, Grade 5 to be exact when this song was always number one in the billboard hits chart.  I used to memorize this song and sang along everytime it is being played on radio.  While singing I could imagine myself that when I grow up, I could be with someone special.

Then I grew up but until now, I haven't have my fair share in the abstract noun so-called L-O-V-E.  And as I had narrated to you in my February blogs, I may had loved but love seemed to flee away from me.  However, being in love is such the most wonderful experience any person could have in his or her entire lifetime!  So, I am really nostalgic of those lovin' feelin', butterflies in the stomach, only-you-and-me-in-the-world moments, sleepless nights, and never-ending smiles which painted my face.

Could I ever experience those amazing things again?  Will my "Aladdin" still come and take me into a magic carpet ride?  But I guess, being 29 and NBSB is making me into the most dreaded thing I had when I was younger.  Maybe my student, Angel Feliciano was right.  When he was imagining me as a grumpy old lady with only cats as company.  Because the two things that I was so afraid of becoming before is exactly what I am today - a teacher and an old maid!:(

Fathers are our personal heroes.  It is God's greatest gift for us to have someone as our protector and shield.  Upon our birth, our father's life is not his own anymore.  But it is to live for his family, being more responsible for the betterment of their living.

Fathers are truly the "haligi ng tahanan" for it is them who provides for the family.  They sacrifice a lot, toiling hard under the sun in order to bring food for the table.  They're the ones who carry more of the burden in raising a family.  They give us what we need and ensure that we're gonna all have a very bright future.

So as we celebrate Father's Day today, we honor our fathers in different ways.  In any way big or small, fathers are always grateful and delighted with our gesture of thanksgiving to them.  Let them feel that they are treasured and loved.  Not just for this day but all the days of our lives.  Happy Father's Day to our "tigplantsa", cook, driver, and very humble dad, Papa Camilo!:)  We love you so much, pa!:)

When I did a survey on what topics will I post for my wedding June blogs, my dear friend Ruth Galarita-Abarrientos suggested to me a write-up about my dream wedding.  But being an NBSB since birth, I am too shy to post something that is out of my reach.  I also don’t want to use the much celebrated “always the bride’s maid but never the bride” statement anymore since it is already worn-out.  So, I just collected some photos of the moments I walked down the aisle, stood by the aisle’s sidelines, and sat behind the aisle.  Enjoy this quick video, guys!:)

Owned by the renowned internist-diabetologist, Dr. Asunciano Arce Lomanta Jr., Xian's Finest Restaurant had found its place under the sun!  With its healthy yet sumptuous dishes, it had captured the hearts of the Ozamiznons the way Am mah Ling (Dr. Arce's mom) had captured our hearts as kids through her binangkal.  She always served these goodies to us every birthday party of Odie and Mise during our grade school years.  Nowadays, binangkal is served as a complimentary appetizer in Xian's.

With its romantic ambiance, me and Auntie Bebot decided to hold the 30th wedding anniversary surprise party of papa and mama at Xian's.  With the help of Dr. Arce's loving and charming wife, Mitch, everything fell into its perfect place on the 3rd day of January 2012!

Thursday Tidbits: A Delayed President’s Travel Tips

Thursday Tidbits puts meaning into life's littlest issues.

I’ve always been a master planner for everything!  I planned my to-do lists, my to-buy lists, what to wear the next day, and even the littlest detail as to what FB status I would post for the next minute!  I planned because I wanted things to be oh so-perfect for the little miss perfect me!

But since I became the president of our chapter, I had stopped planning in advance.  I don’t know why but it seemed like “my” plannings didn’t work out that well.  So I just injected in my mind not to plan things to be perfect anymore and would just let life take me by surprise instead.

So, I didn’t plan my trip to attend the Presidents’ Midyear Academy.  To start with, I didn’t get tickets for my way to Bohol (usually I book tickets a month before my travel date).  As a consequence, I got stranded in Cebu which made me super late for the academy.  So based from my oh so-sablay experience, allow me to share with you some amateurishly-designed travel tips.

Travel Tip #1:  Decide right away!

If you are asked to go some place, decide right away whether to go or not to go.  Do not be fickle-minded because if you would delay this, this would be the cause of all the delays waiting ahead of your trip.

Travel Tip #2:  Book tickets right away!

If you had made up your mind where to go, book tickets right away.  Surf the net for the most accessible mode of transport.  And since it’s time everyone flies, you might get reasonably-priced accommodations.

Travel Tip #3:  Travel light!

Only pack the necessities.  Do not bring extra clothes and extra footwear.  Mix and match your outfits, fix ‘em, and stick with ‘em.  It’s regretful to go back home with only half of your luggage got soiled.

Travel Tip #4:  Stick with the itinerary!

Do not detour.  If there’s already an itinerary, follow it.  Do not go with the flow and leave the itinerary in an impulse.  Think twice before going somewhere else or you might end up getting to a place where you had been to before.

But as always, all things work together for good.  I may have missed major things from the academy, then again life took me by surprise!

Surprise #1

For the millionth time, I became an instant tour guide for my fellow delayed presidents in Cebu.  I let them walk and rode on jeepneys as I brought them to Basilica Minore del Santo Niῆo de Cebu and Magellan’s Cross.

Surprise #2

I was in the same fastcraft with my fave South Border vocalist, Luke Mijares.

Surprise #3

I was warmly-welcomed by all the cuties of JCI-Davao at the peir.

Surprise #4

I graduated from the academy with only 1 ½ topics attended.

Surprise #5

I received my president shirt jock especially hand-carried by the Secretary General, Atty. Mark Lester Manalo.

Surprise #6

I got a more picturesque photo with the chocolate hills compared with what I had 6 years ago.

Surprise #7

I got to visit the miraculous well of Our Lady of the Assumption at Dauis Church and the 65-year old forever young, Bayoyoy as featured in Rated K by Korina Sanchez.

Surprise #8

Nonetheless, I got the opportunity to bond with Tita Lilibeth (PP, Ozamiz Red Rose), Pres Boyet (Pagadian Heights), Pres Arvin (Calamba Jose Rizal), Pres Choy (San Pablo 7 Lakes), Pres Onie and wife Cathy (Tacloban), Pres Ron (Baguio Inc.), Pres Bryan (Catbalogan), Pres Cathy (Sta. Rosa Prima), Pres Jofer and wife Pres Cathy (Kabankalan), and Pres Maleth (Bohol Chocolate Hills).

Then all the delays of my trip were all worth it!  And as I mulled things over today, I realized that it’s not the sablays that matter but the people I met along the journey matter most.

So to whoever plans a trip, do consider the above-mentioned tips.  Just don’t expect too much for things to happen according to plan so you might also double the surprises apart from the mishaps that would have happened.

Hurray to the delayed presidents!  Hurray that I had survived my trip from Tagbilaran – Jagna - Cagayan de Oro - Ozamiz alone!  (another consequence of my negligence)

Tech Tuesday: Kinect

Tech Tuesday tells about the techie side of me!

As a body-conscious person, I love doing physical activities that would keep my body fit.  I have a flair for all-things extraneous as mentioned in Fitness First!  My fitness sessions last year ended with Zumba but lasted only until February because I got really busy that I didn't have much time to attend to my health-buffiness anymore.  But now that I had adjusted with my work loads and schedules, I am so lucky to get back into being physical again!  Fortunately after my Zumba craze, I have found a new discovery which is the Kinect. 

Kinect is a motion sensing input device by Microsoft for the Xbox 360 video game console.  Based around a webcam-style add-on peripheral for the Xbox 360 console, it enables users to control and interact with the Xbox 360 without the need to touch a game controller, through a natural user interface using only gestures and spoken commands (Wikipedia.com).

I was so amazed on how Kinect-technology works!  With just standing in front of the device, it can detect all your bodily movements.  You can choose from a variety of hip dance songs by just waving your hand.  And off you go dancing with the visual instructors!  The dance steps can be easy, medium, or hard depending on your dance background.  But entirely, they are easy to follow if you could also catch up with the pace.

After dancing with the beat of a whole song, I already sweat a lot!  I found it better than Zumba because I didn't end up panting too hard.  I considered it as only playing a game.  But with this game, I got benefits by burning extra calories from my body. Then my body ached the day after.  But I was still happy because it is in a good way!  

Doing exercises had never been this fun!  Thanks to the advent of such advanced technology that keeps on wowing us.  Let's do Kinect again when Vian arrives in town this Friday!:)
