Feature Friday: Quality Skin Care and Spa

Feature Friday highlights businesses, people, fashion, and basically anything under the sun!

Stepping into Quality Skin Care and Spa is like stepping into a different world, a different space, a different dimension wherein you could just relax your mind, body, and soul.  It is such a great place to de-stress which is located at the very heart of Ozamis, along Washington St.  The interior of the spa is Balinese-inspired that could actually take you to the place where spa-ing begins.  You could even forget that you are at the center of the city where vehicles and crowds are in chaos outside.  There is exactly no hint of city life once you are inside the spa.

Quality Skin Care and Spa has an array of services to choose from.  You may refer here for the complete list.  The ladies in waiting are so courteous and are well-trained for any service you would want to have.  You can experience a thorough work from their light hands and a very well-done job.  And take that from a perfectionist like me.  With this, I guarantee that you would be back asking for more!

Foot Spa
Pedicure
In addition, the products that the spa is using are not the usual products we have in the market.  These are top brands that would give you more quality results aside from the magic touch of their ladies who by the way, are your lady servants while you’re there.  Plus, outside the spa are a beauty salon and a coffee shop as a waiting area for your companion if he/she doesn’t want any treatment which I’m sure he/she will ever regret.

So whenever you’re in Ozamis, visit Quality Skin Care and Spa for relaxation and rejuvenation.  It is also a great place to bond with your sisters or girl friends and just enjoy a resting afternoon together.

Thanks to my sissy April for letting me experience Quality Skin Care and Spa for the first time! And also thanks to Arick for showing us around! :)

Feature Friday: Honeybee Chick and Ribs Grill House

Feature Friday highlights businesses, people, fashion, and basically anything under the sun!

Boodle - a collection or lot of persons
Fight - to use weapons or physical force to try to hurt someone, to defeat an enemy, etc.
                                               - Merriam-Webster Dictionary

Boodle Fight - a festive sharing of a huge complete meal in only one big platter by a group                                             of persons using bare hands
                                              - yours truly

Boodle fight has its origin from the Philippine Military Academy.  It is their traditional way of eating freshly-cooked food on top of banana leaves on long tables using their bare hands.  It signifies brotherhood and camaraderie that implies what you eat is also what I eat.  With this, they combat in grabbing as much food as they can and as fast, too.  And since everybody in the army is always in a hurry, they eat boodle fight in standing position.

Of course, it's not that hygienic for some people to eat in a communal meal.  But with the Pinoy's unique personality, boodle fighting is not just practical and convenient for the military.  It also has become a fun way of eating together for everybody!  So during fiestas or picnics by the beach, boodle fight way of eating has claimed its name.  And today, native Filipino restos serve boodle fight.  Now thanks to Mr. Warren Tan (proprietor of Warren's Arts and Studio) for bringing boodle fight to the big OC!

Honeybee Chick and Ribs Grill House opened last January 29, 2014 at Gomez St., Ozamis City.  Like any other grill house, it serves grilled Filipino dishes like inihaw and barbeque.  But what they're famous for is the boodle fight!  Their boodle fight packages start from a very affordable price of P349 only for a group of 3-4 persons.  This already includes a handful of rice, pork barbeque, pork inihaw, steamed bangus, salted egg, cheesedog, and dried fish.  Plus, add-ons of softdridnks for each person is also on the house!  Their serving is very generous that the entire group would surely have its fill!

Aside from the boodle fight, Honeybee also serves roasted chicken with real honey at the least price of P130 when compared with the lechon manok price range in the city.  And for every purchase of these Honeybee roasters, a Coke in can is given as a freebie!  Isn't that sulit enough?

I am so glad to have had my first ever boodle fight experience last Saturday for Ate Aida's birthday!  Number 1 rule that we had, no diet for the evening!  How could you if what is laid in front of you is a whole caboodle of mouth-watering Pinoy favorites?!!!  So we gave in and indulged and even requested for an extra cup of rice.  Their pork inihaw is just so good that I also have to try their back ribs which is their specialty for my next visit.

So for a fun family and barkada experience, try boodle fighting at Honeybee!  I guarantee you, it's something new and totally different!  Just as what Sir Warren quipped when asked why boodle fight, "just for a change.....", it is indeed unique in its way!

And now, my definition for boodle fight would be.....

Boodle Fight - eating at your heart's content with the one's you love to strengthen the bonding moment! (with exclamation point for emphasis)

Thank you Sir Warren for sitting with us despite the busy floor that you had during this time!
Thanks also to the very kind staff of Honeybee!

Feature Friday: Hula Hut

Feature Friday highlights businesses, people, fashion, and basically anything under the sun!

February spells L-O-V-E!  It is the month for cupid, the month for lovers, and the month to just simply fall in love!  It is a month of too much mushiness and cheesiness, one might add mawkishness to the love vocabulary.  All so corny, right?  But if you want to be a little bit more romantic this Valentine's Day, bring your special someone to the Hula Hut!

Hula Hut is located at the ground floor Gaizano Southwing, Port Road, Ozamis City.  This city's new resto is Hawaiian-inspired as the name itself suggests.  With that, their ambiance and menu have every bit of Hawaiianish touch.  The resto depicts the romantic atmosphere of the tropical Hawaii which is farmost, the world's #1 honeymoon destination!

Since we're talking about being romantic here, a live band is at play to set the mood!  Aside from Hawaiian music, the band also plays hits from the 60's, 70's, and 80's ideal for couples who love the classics!  Middle-aged couples can really relate and enjoy the songs from the past.  They can also dance to the groove with the beat of the Beatles and Frank Sinatra.  But guys out there who are my age can also relate because there are already versions of the classic hits that are being sang by our artists nowadays.  I bet you, you will just be surprised once a certain song is being played that it actually is an old song.  It doesn't hurt much if we'll put a little effort in getting to experience the past.  So come and enjoy the music that mom and dad also enjoyed in their teenage years!
You Can Also Hit the Mic and Sing Your Fave Classic Hit!
And for the single-hearted this Valentine's Day, don't ya worry!  Tag along a friend or your whole gang of also single friends!  For sure, you will have a memorable Valentine night with good food, good music, and a good laugh!  For Valentine is a celebration of love and love is not only exclusive for those who are in romantic relationships!

With Bestie MM
To cap the night off, drinks like cocktails, wines, and beers are also available at Hula Hut.  Visit them every Friday and Saturday nights for their live band!

Hula Hut reminds everyone to drink moderately.

Whimsical Wednesday: Sinful Treats

Whimsical Wednesday shows my fancy in a myriad of beautiful things.

Finally!  Here's now a coffee shop in Ozamis that serves Instagram-worthy food presentation and it is in the body of The Coffee Lounge!  As mentioned in my Feature Friday blog entry of the said café, I love it there since they do not only serve coffee but also non-coffee based drinks for non-coffee drinkers like me.  And here are a few of their sinful treats I went gaga over last holiday season:

Green Tea Kit Kat

I always love drinking tea!  May it be black tea, oolong tea, jasmine tea, or green tea - I love every variety of it!  And this one is such an ingenious blend of tea-ing!  It is so smooth and the sweetness is just so right.  With the added Kit Kat wafer, it is a blast!  I highly recommend this drink so you'll also experience closing your eyes as you take a sip of this!

Mango Tango

This crêpe is so soft and so light to the stomach.  It is so savory with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top!  Try this and be a little bit Frenchy in the big OC!

Pink Banana

Banana milkshakes are so healthy because bananas are rich in potassium.  If you cannot get your child to eat bananas, then have this as your weapon!  They will surely love this and would definitely ask for another glass or more!

If ever you're already bored with same old menus being served to you, come and visit The Coffee Lounge at Royal Garden Hotel along Burgos corner Zamora Sts., Ozamis City!

Feature Friday: Purple Yam Homemade Cakes and Pastries

Feature Friday highlights businesses, people, fashion, and basically anything under the sun!

Do you know that ube is a vegetable?  My favorite cake and ice cream flavor is actually under the same family with sweet potatoes having the scientific name Dioscorea alata.  (Kuya Kim lang ang peg? hehe.....)  It is called purple yam in English which served as a staple food for the Americans during the Civil War.  It is loaded with vitamins A and C for good eyesight and better protection against immune system deficiencies.

In Philippine setting, ube becomes an integral part to Pinoy native desserts.  Aside from cakes and ice cream, there's also the halayang ube which is a purple yam jam for sandwiches.  Puto or rice cakes can also have ube flavor and even Dumaguete's specialty, the silvanas.

And for Ozamis setting, purple yam sweet treats can be availed at Purple Yam Homemade Cakes and Pastries!  Their cake shop is located at RD Building, Animas St., Brgy. Aguada, Ozamis City.  So for this Christmas season, place your orders now and give them a ring at (088) 564-0282!

Feature Friday highlights businesses, people, fashion, and basically anything under the sun!

Halo-halo is an all-time Pinoy fave dessert which in English means "mix".  In chemistry, it is the most appropriate concrete example for heterogeneous mixture.  But for me, it is a heavenly food invention composed of yummy goodies which is swak na swak to everyone's palate!  Adult and kids alike love this dessert for it is a concoction of sweet beans, sweet fruits, shaved ice, evaporated milk, and ice cream.  So I was beyond glad to have found the most affordable halo-halo in town which is being served at Ozam Halo-Halo Atbp!

Feature Friday: Farronccino Café Ozamis

Feature Friday highlights businesses, people, fashion, and basically anything under the sun!

And I know you're already getting fed up with all my new-career/back-to-engineering/selfie posts so back into regular programming.  Since I started working in La Salle, I haven't got any decent Feature Friday post at all.  But thank God it's prelim exam so I quiet have a break from all class preparations.  Hopefully, every week is exam week!  Nah, sabi ng back into regular programming pero school pa rin ang chinichika!  Pwes!  Break na kung break!  So blog readers, here's my Feature Friday post for today!

I know it's a little bit late but I couldn't just let this café-ing experience come to pass.  As you may all know, I'm not into coffee so why do I even bother in posting this?  Well, it's just that I had found a place where I can smell the addictive aroma of coffee while not getting myself caffeinated.  A place where I can choose from a wide variety of cool drinks without the infusion of coffee.  And to the fact that it's a coffee shop, I can still experience "coffee" without getting myself a sleepless night.  It's just so great to have Farronccino Café in the city!
Started out as a food cart beside Greenwich, I hardly ever noticed Farronccino until me and my MUHS balot friends had balot session at Manong's right in front of the cart some two years ago.  As we went over the price list, we found their drinks cheap compared with the other brands of coolers we already know in town.  And though cheap, we still didn't have the generosity to buy one since Coke prevails to be the best pantulak for balot!  But Farronccino got it big time after years of stalling and opened a lavish coffee shop bound for homey service.  Their hot drinks (coffee or tea), coolers (coffee or non-coffee based), and cakes are just so right to the palate that everybody of all ages can gloriously enjoy!
In addition, the ambiance of the café has also been set right for perfect picture-taking of bonding moments for Facebook and Instagram purposes.  The interiors and furniture are opulently designed to offer a decadent look for all who wishes to have a picture-perfect background.  And aside from the café's interior, soulful music is also being played where you can relax your mind.  Nonetheless, board games are also being offered for leisure playing to make sulit that quality time you are spending with your family or friends inside the shop.

As a family-owned franchise business, family celebrations are a prerogative of Farronccino so it also has a private room inside the café.  It can host a big family for a gathering of any celebration in any season of the year.  In my case, I was so glad to celebrate the extension of my baby Fascino (sounds-like lang po ang peg) so I grabbed Lalay to have an hour of refreshment with me.  Out from our own shop, we diverted ourselves and just chilled for a while in a differently new environment.  It was great to have some girl talk while sipping Farronccino coolers and comparing one from the other.
So if you would just want to take a break for a while, visit Farronccino Café along Port Road, Ozamis City.  Whether you are in a selfie mood to read a book or access free WiFi service,
or in a I-want-to-talk-to-you mood with a friend,
or better yet, in a kulitan-tayo mood with the whole gang!
With My Then Premature First Years Who Had Suddenly Grown Up So Fast!
Farronccino Café is just the place for you to experience "Love in every cup."! :)

Feature Friday: Hukad sa Golden Cowrie Ozamis

Feature Friday highlights businesses, people, fashion, and basically anything under the sun!

It might be a bit late for this blog post but it is better late than never, right?  For Hukad sa Golden Cowrie already opened months ago dated March 15, 2013 in Ozamis City.  Thanks to the Lim family who also owns a chain of shopping centers in the city for bringing the taste of Golden Cowrie in town!

If you are into native Filipino cuisine, then Hukad sa Golden Cowrie is the best place for you!  Golden Cowrie has its roots from Cebu and when I was still working there, my roommate Jennifer frequented the resto and introduced it to me.  She loved their sinigang na baboy so much and other pure Pinoy dishes which she kept on raving to me.  As a foodie, it was Jennifer who brought me to a handful of Cebu's finest restos.  But sad to say, we haven't visited Golden Cowrie together.  It was only after resigning from my job in Cebu that I had tried the place with the company of some other friends.

Indeed, Jen was absolutely right!  Hukad sa Golden Cowrie serves the most sumptuous and original Filipino dishes.  Aside from their most requested sinigang na baboy, they also have adobong pusit, baked scallops, bicol express, calamares, and escabecheng tangigue.
But nothing beats their chicken pandan which had instantly become my favorite!
And to top it all, halo-halo for dessert is the best ever Pinoy attitude that we can never do without!

In this regard, Hukad sa Golden Cowrie also aims to provide a venue for every Filipino family.  As Filipinos, we value close family ties and there is no better way to bond with each other than doing it over food.  We love eating much and we love talking much especially over a bountiful table heavily laden with good food.  So may it be a Sunday lunch, a birthday celebration, a despidida party, or any other gathering, Hukad is just the place to be!
With its spaciousness and homey interior, Hukad sa Golden Cowrie Ozamis is perfect for a festive ambiance for the whole Filipino family.  So, visit Hukad at the Royal Garden Hotel along Burgos corner Zamora Sts., Ozamis City today for you to experience the newest Pinoy fine dining with a twist!

Labor Day: Upon This Rock I Will Build My Church

"And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it." - Matthew 16:18

Outskirt of Ozamis City lies a small barrio, Brgy. Bongbong.  It is a relocation site for the previous inhabitants of the coastal area of Baybay Triunfo after its big fire last 1997.  Concrete houses were given by the government with the help of a foreign non-governmental organization.  Then these homeless people had the opportunity to start their lives all over again.  Step by step, they stood up after their fall.

And after 16 years, the Bongbong inhabitants had developed into a community of simple and humble living.  They had also grown into friendship and love through the teachings of the Bible.  As an outreach leader of the Happy Church, Maria Lourdes T. Putis gathered her neighbors for weekly fellowship.  At first, they held it in a small nipa hut.  Eventually, the attendees grew in number so they transferred and squeezed into her small piggery.  Now can you imagine listening to the word of God with pigs around?  Well, they had managed and survived it for years until the group decided to pray for a meeting place for them to be more comfortable.

So the small group started praying and being faithful in their tithes and offering.  They saved whatever amount of money they had managed to collect in every meeting.  They brought a piece of this, a piece of that, just anything that could be of help for the construction of their mini house of prayer.  They started from total scratch until last week, they had agreed to start laying down their plans into something tangible.  After years of waiting, finally they had started building up the foundation for their weekly meeting place of worship!
The Happy Church Bongbong Outreach in Worship
In unity, the group started piling up hallow blocks for the foundation.  Then a good-hearted member contributed rocks to fill the foundation.  In order to save up for labor, all members complied to take the load of carrying these rocks.  The mission was to get what you can manage to bring from the heap of rocks to the construction site about ten to fifteen steps apart.
Truly, the bayanihan spirit of the Filipinos prevailed.  Everybody helped - men, women, adult, youth, and children alike.  There was even a pregnant woman doing her share too!  Everyone was so willing to help and happily doing his or her job.
The lolos and lolas didn't mind their aching backs, the happy-go-lucky lads took a break from their basketball game, the pa-cute lasses ignored the scorching heat of the sun, and even the little kiddos considered it as their playtime!
After successfully transferring the rocks from its pile to the construction site, the neighborhood shared a big pot of steamy hot sweet chocolate rice porridge a.k.a. champorado (just to make it sound sosyal).
Champorado + hearty talk + good laughs = true Christian fellowship.  That equation made their day after their toilsome labor!
Truly, answering God's call takes a lot of sacrifice.  But sacrificing for the love of God and brethren is being rewarded eternally.  Like the Happy Church Bongbong Outreach, living a life in simplicity and contentment is greatly accepted at its best.  They may not be rich in worldly riches but they are rich in love.  What they did for each other in building up their meeting place is indeed a labor of love.  The foundation had been laid out and there are still walls, ceilings, flooring, etc.  Through faith, they are fervently praying for the completion of their "home".  And they are positive that they will and they can finish what they had already started!
