Faces of My Phases

The Showing-Much-Skin Phase

Tiny shorts, backless tops, mini skirts, and tube tops were my fave clothing items right after college.  Those were the days when I started to explore fashion in the cosmopolitan city of Cebu.  Trying to be radical, I experimented with the shortest things to reveal my legs which I'm proud to say, an asset of mine.  And, I was always talikodgenic so I also wanted to flaunt my flawless back!  I didn't care what people might say because all I wanted was to be comfortable in what I wear and showing much skin did it best for me!

The Lady in Red Phase

When I became a member of JCI-Ozamis Red Rose, I went gaga over all sorts of red (My Royal Redness)!  This time, I became a party animal who walked as feisty and as fiery as RED!  Could you just imagine that I had traveled around the Philippine archipelago just to party???!!!  Partying all night, getting jaded the next day, meeting "big" people, feeling like a VIP - these were the things I made the most out of with to fully enjoy singlehood!!! :)

The Nutty Professor Phase

And here comes a behaved, prim, and proper phase (well, it's not that I've never been prim and proper before)!  Whoa!!!  Yes, I could still wear shorts but now I hesitate.  Yes, I could still wear red but I don't feel like wearing any red at all!  Aba, nag-MATURE!!!  Haha!  So, why on earth is this?  Maybe I've come to a point of getting over with the things I used to do, to wear, and to go crazy about.  Maybe "growing up" had gotten into me thus making me act my age.  And that is just it!  Though I miss playing around from time to time, I just have to think that I've been there, done that, and I'm through with that!  So here comes a brand new face for the phases of my life!

And what could be next to this?  Just keep on reading www.maryrosalieo.blogspot.com! :)

Easter Sunday: The Symbolism of the Easter Eggs

He is risen!  Jesus is risen from the dead!  As we commemorate Jesus' resurrection today, we make use of Easter eggs.  These are any kind of eggs which are colored and hand-painted with different designs making them special.  These are given from one person to another as a way to celebrate the victory of Jesus over death!

Then what do these eggs symbolize?  Simple!  As an egg hatches, a birdling is given a new life while the shell is being left behind.  The shell symbolizes the empty tomb of Jesus and the birdling is the life that Jesus had freely given to us.  For it is written, "I am the resurrection and the life.  He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die." - John 11:25-26

This is God's eternal promise to us.  That as we believe and receive Jesus as our personal Lord and Savior, we are being freed from the wages of sin.  And once we do, we are given a new life - the real life that God is so longing for us to have.  In the same way, the shell also symbolizes our old life and the birdling as our new life.  We should leave behind our worldly past to enjoy the eternal future God has stored for us through Jesus Christ! :)
Easter Sunday Celebration at Happy Church
"Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with Him.  For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, He cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over Him.  The death He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life He lives, He lives to God.  In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus." - Romans 6:8-11

Happy Easter, everyone! :)

Feature Friday: Jerome Artworks

Feature Friday highlights businesses, people, fashion, and basically anything under the sun!

Feature Friday was born for the purpose of showcasing Ozamiz businesses and Ozamiz talents.  In my quest to feature worthy ones, I had come across with a budding artist who happens to be my MUHS co-teacher's cousin and my colleague in Medina College.  So guys, may I have the honor to introduce to you, Mr. Jerome Lañohan Lirasan.

Jerome is a native Ozamiznon born on August 27, 1988.  He came from a family of photographers who owned Jimrose Studio during the 90's.  As a young boy, his parents taught him how to use the manual camera.  He found it very hard to do and he also witnessed how tough his parents' job is so he swore to himself that he'll never ever be a photographer.
But as he was taking up his BS in Computer Science degree in Medina College, someone hired him to do some Post Process on a picture.  He was amazed by the outcome and realized that he want to make more photos like that.  Thus, he ate his own word.  He then started taking photos, mostly portraits of people.

Right after graduation, he was hired at Medina College as a Graphic Artist.  And this inspired him  to focus more on photography.  Surprisingly, people started to discover his talents and hired him for some photo ops.  So as a sideline business, he engaged into pre-nuptial photography and here are samples of his photos:
From word of mouth, he eventually had the chance to cover an actual wedding day!  And this is not just photography.  Jerome also teamed up with his brothers, Jerson and James for videography and this became the start of Jerome Artworks.

As a newbie to the business world, Jerome does not see photography as a means to amass fortune.  He sees photography differently as he quipped, "As I embrace this type of career, I find out more of life and the beauty of it.  I like photography because it enables me to show my talent and skills.  Capturing every emotion and precious moment, showing what's behind every photo, and showing this to the world is what makes me more motivated and devoted to this career.  I love photography, it is now my life, and I start living it!"

7K Photography and Videography is now open to the public!  This package includes
  • Pre-Nuptial Photography with Make Up Artist (Marvel Deromol)
  • Photography and Videography on Actual Wedding Day
  • 50 3R-Sized Photos
  • 1 DVD of Video Pre-Nup and Picture Slideshow
All these for only P 7,000!  For bookings, just contact Jerome-09075088338, Annalyn-09321330242, and yours truly-09306350290.

Whimsical Wednesday: If a Picture Paints a Thousand Words

Whimsical Wednesday shows my fancy in a myriad of beautiful things.

I'm addicted with pictures!  I have a vast collection of photos and photo albums since I knew the word "picture"!  I am just so elated with delight as I see this class picture of ours ages ago (credits to Mise for scanning and posting this in FB)!  In this photo, we were still in Grade 2 with Mrs. Carmen M. Guangco as our class adviser and subjects teacher in Pilot Laboratory School.  Mind you, this class was the cream of the crop in the 90's being the first ever SPED class in the whole of Misamis Occidental!  Well, this just shows and proves who we had become today.  Now, let me test my memory bank if I could still name my classmates way back then.
Taken at Gabaldon Building
From top left:  Eduardo Maghanoy, Ian, Gino Carpio, Ronald Malaluan, Stalin Mirabueno, Kirk Benjie Gonzales, Kurt Zion Boncales, Andrew Aldikke George Buot, Felix Zandro Neri, Jojie Arellano, Jan Michelle Lomanta, Melanie Piquet, Virginia Gumantaron, Lizcel Cagaanan, Zharisse Lavendina, yours truly, Susie Ponce, Alma Grace Terez, Elaine Vargas, Brenda Jim Murga, Yonna Villanueva, Eunice Rae Gallego, Esther Caroline Guangco, Jane Ann, Juliemie Gelbolingo, and Alan Odelon Lomanta.

I'm 99% sure that all the names listed above (except for the Ian boy and the Jane Ann girl) are correct and not misspelled (kill me if I'm mistaken)!  And this I proudly did without even looking a copy or did any research! (boastful smile) However, my apologies to the married girls who had already changed their surnames and I also wonder how Ian and Jane Ann are doing now.....

If a picture paints a thousand words, this one does!  Who would have thought that this class had created a doctor, lawyers, engineers, nurses, teachers, IT experts, office administrators, and a model!  Thanks to Mrs. Guangco who had molded us into fine and competent individuals!:)

Whatta Labbing Feeling

Gah!  I already have my own quotation/saying/proverb!  In my third year of teaching higher Chemistry subjects, I had concluded that one!  I'm so proud of myself (weeeehhhh)!  So, hurrah for a lifetime achievement! (big smile)

Anyway, I had earned this through my students.  Because I always love seeing them confused.
Because I always love seeing them curious and amazed.
For the nth time of stating this, I never endeavored to becoming a teacher.  But with the experiences I have with my students, I suddenly realized that it's not me who teach but it's them who has taught me.  So step by step, it is now sinking in - that I am a teacher and I had come to sing whatta labbing feeling!

Tell me your insights about "my" very own quotation above and get a chance to win a designer scent perfume specially made by yours truly!  Just

Daily Dose of C

Studies show that the rainy season and cold weather is not the cause of illnesses like the common cold.  Rather, such illness is caused by the virus called rhinovirus.  A person catches cold when the virus gets into the human body.  During rainy days, people get to stay indoor and when one has the common cold, the virus would spread from one person to another.  So, the rain doesn't cause the cold but it is the virus and the dry air that spreads it.  (Medical Facts and Fallacies, Bato Balani 2013)

Since we are presently having rainy days, there is a need for us to boost our immune system.  We can comply this by taking our daily dose of Vitamin C.  Vitamin C is also known as ascorbic acid.  It is an essential nutrient that fights pathogens thus building up body resistance.  We can get it naturally by eating citrus fruits like oranges, ponkan, and dalandan.  Through science, Vitamin C has been concentrated in syrup, tablet, or capsule form.  Advancement in technology has also led to the addition of Vitamin C in powdered drinks.

One of the most nutritious powdered drinks in the market today is the Magnolia Powdered Fruit Drink Mix. One glass of it is packed with 60-80 mg of Vitamin C.  That is just equivalent to eating three whole oranges that is the recommended daily allowance (RDA) for Vitamin C.  Plus, it has the added Vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, B6, and B9 for better body energy.  It is so refreshingly good and delicious coming in three variants (Orange, Orange-Mango, and Pineapple).

I'm glad that drinking Magnolia Powdered Fruit Drink Mix had become my lifestyle.  I'm sturdy enough to resist catching the common cold.  So to all of you my dear blog readers, safeguard your health by getting a daily dose of C from Magnolia Powdered Fruit Drink Mix!

Magnolia Health Tea Powdered Drink Mix is available in all leading supermarkets nationwide.

Whimsical Wednesday: Comfort Foods for the Rainy Days

Whimsical Wednesday shows my fancy in a myriad of beautiful things.

I love the rainy days!  These bring out coldness in the air, giving me a completely good mood and good vibes.  But the coldness also makes me just wanna laze and curl up in bed.  Plus, it gives me a fat urge to crave for food.  So here are some of those comfort foods I am currently salvating for which are perfect for the cold weather we're enjoying these past few days.

Would it be so nice to hold just a bowl of these hot stews and soups in my hands?  Would it be so nice to have some of these to warm me up?  But since I'm stucked here in the confines of our school, I could just settle for a mug of hot choco to get me through the day (but I also wish for mallow tops)!

HAPPY WARMING, EVERYONE!:)

Looking for a Reason to Stay

December of 2010 when I submitted a resignation letter to the administration of MUHS.  By then, I wanted to go back to the chemical industry.  Yes, I did went back!  I did went to Manila to start a job as a chemical engineer in a cosmetic manufacturing company.  But then again, it did not do me any good.  I missed home, I missed my store, I missed my friends, and most especially, I missed my students.  All I wanted to do was to go home and get back to my old routine.

But I did't get back to my old routine.  Instead, I spent months giving time to myself searching for what I really want.  Then my previous colleagues encouraged me to go back to MUHS.  I got to think, why not?  I missed the students, I missed teaching them, I missed laughing with them, I missed scolding them, and I missed fighting with them!  So, I did got back!

Now that I'm here for months, it's about time to rethink of spending another school year in this place I already considered home.  But based from my experiences this current school year, I realized that I couldn't anymore.  I realized that I couldn't stretch my patience with the kids nowadays.  They are just so different from the kids I had before!

For my kids before were rowdy yet manageable,
naughty yet sweet,
and mischievous yet respectful.
Kids nowadays are a far cry from what I had two years ago.  And as I go back to these old photos in FB, I reconsidered to look for a reason to stay.  But as I face the kids in my classes, I regret to say that I really couldn't.
First Group Picture with My Junior Griffins
Maybe because I'm getting older that's why my patience is not that much as I had before.
First Reunion with My Griffins During Dos' Birthday
Or maybe because of my boring subject that kids had already mindset-ly and honestly loathed.
Dinner Out with Teacher Aida
Or maybe it is because of my negative attitude toward the kids that kept them from liking me.
My Griffins' First Visit at Our House
Or maybe because I had promised not to be over-emotionally attached to my students anymore.
My 30th Birthmonth with My Griffins at SM Cebu
Can I still turn back the time when I was once called a Ma'amy, a Ma'ama, and a Ma'amsky?
New Year 2013 with My Griffins at Our House
Or is it about time to move forward to a higher level of group of students?

I may had never said this but I'm sure I had showed them
that I love them too and I still miss them so.....

And as for the reason to stay?  Sad to say, I haven't found any at all (after the reconsiderations, talks, and effort). :(
