Feature Friday: Wow Panaon!

Feature Friday highlights businesses, people, fashion, and basically anything under the sun!

Panaon, Misamis Occidental is a budding municipality located north of Ozamiz which is only three quarters of an hour ride through private transpo.  However if in public, an additional of 15-20 minutes won't break your neck 'coz there's never traffic jam here in our laidback province.  With that, I'd like to be called as a probinsyana (dreaming of Coco as my probinsyano).  Hehe.....  Anyway highway, enough about him and just allow me to start raving to you a place that surprises me this summer!

Sideway, I never thought that my first write-up on Panaon's Punta Meriam would be such a hit!  Even after a year and a half, it's still on my popular posts list and I do get a lot of queries every now and then about it.  Some of my readers also asked other resorts they could visit in the area so I thought that I must do a follow-up post on it.

To start with, we checked into La Playa Azul (formerly Regalado's).  It just changed management so renovations are still on going.  Honestly, we found the place unwelcoming to guests because the staff was not accommodating.  Sorry to tell you this but I have to since I don't want to mislead people by "all praises" on this blog.  However, we understood and considered since the owner is not from the municipality and is residing in Cebu.  And when the cat is out, the rats always play, right?  So that's understandable.  But aside from the poor staff administration, the resort doesn't serve food too.  There's no resto so you better bring your own food.  The restrooms are also far from the cottages which is rather inconvenient.  Though the garden is still under reconstruction, the pools are not well-kept.  Hopefully the next time I'm gonna visit the place, renovations are done, personnel is already trained and prepared, and amenities and facilities are complete for the convenience of the guests.  Because with all honesty, we were not happy for the price we paid during our visit ('coz every move = price to pay).

In spite of that, we still enjoyed our day 'coz we went on a banana boat ride and island hopping!  Banana boat was P85 per pax and the pump boat ride to an island was P800 round trip.  But we waited for an hour for the captains of the ship to arrive.  The manang still had to call for them 'coz there's nobody on standby.  You can't also make bookings ahead of time as we inquired.  Tsk tsk.....  Actually, I got a little impatient 'coz I was only doing the outing on my 9 AM - 5 PM MWF class break.  Gladly, Rio was a speedy driver so she sent me back to school on time!

On the other hand, we also checked into Dela Paz Beach Resort.  It's a public one and it's just like Rama Beach in Clarin, another municipality in Misamis Occidental which is adjacent to Ozamiz.  The only entrance fee here is P10 for whatever car you're bringing including all passengers inside.  If by foot, you're not gonna pay for anything.  It's open to all so the beach is crowded.  The place is not really clean as expected but there are lots of water activities that are already in waiting.  There are more banana boats and pump boats with the additional kayaks and jetski.  However, they said that the jetski was privately owned and who knows you could talk to the owner to have a ride.  Haha!  Additionally, they also have this ride wherein you cling on to a big salbabida on your stomach and face down then you'll get tugged by a fast-moving motorized banca.  The ride was hilarious and would surely give you adrenaline rush.  My cousin Matoy even stopped the manong for she couldn't move forward clinging on to dear life anymore.  This ride was P100 per pax for an hour and oh, by the way, the pump boat ride to the island was only P20 per head here roundtrip so I guess La Playa also charged us more than the ride actually cost.  I feel like they snipped a big chunk of the P800 we paid.  Poor banca owners....

Now here are quick vids on what to expect of the water activities!

With prices affordable at Dela Paz, our little cousin and nephew did the island hopping twice-thrice during our outing last Sunday for JP's birthday.  Everybody really enjoyed swimming with the fun water activities that are plenty in the place.  So there's no need to go to Boracay for white sand (though the island here is not as white) and watersports 'coz we already have 'em here in our nearby town, Panaon.  I just hope that one day, they're gonna also add parasailing.

So this is my local summer adventure!  I never thought I could experience summer this year for our school's second semester also covered April and May.  I am just glad that Panaon gave summer to me so hail to the municipal government officials for making the place a tourist destination!  Let's explore Misamis Occidental further, friends!  #tosomfeatures

Dahon Boodle and Grill

It's Monday after a very long holiday!  I woke up early, yearning to be productive today.  And since there's no school anymore, I opened the store early and decided to spend the day here.  While waiting for customers, might as well write to shoot two birds in one stone.

As we commemorated Jesus Christ's passion to the cross last week, I was reminded yesterday of the Christmas me and my Physics majors had because yesterday was also Christmas of the resurrection.  I could not miss without ever posting this.  So rewind, December of 2014 at Dahon Boodle and Grill.

Dahon Boodle and Grill is located along Don Anselmo Bernad Avenue, Ozamiz City.  It is a sister resto of The BBQ Station (Tuslob Buwa) and SN Lechon Manok.  It offers another boodle fight experience to the big OZ which makes dining more enjoyable and affordable!  To cater diverse customer need and satisfaction, the food is varied with pork, chicken, fish, and other seafood.  They even include soup, vegetables, and fruits to offer a very complete meal.  Additionally, the rice is served with a very ample amount to be shared by a whole bunch of happy eaters!

My students and I had fun eating with bare hands, rounding up the buffet in front of us.  We enjoyed eating that we didn't notice that we consumed all food in just a matter of few minutes only.

After boodle fighting was the much-awaited exchanging of gifts!  We had been kris kringling for the whole week and whoever gets to guess his/her manianito/manianita is rewarded with a Fascino giveaway.  But I love them all so everybody got a gift from Fascino! :)

After Dahon, we agreed to digest the food we gluttonized by walking to Gat's Bar and have light drinks there.  By then, views, opinions, and "feelings" were told to each other that we also agreed to leave 'em all there!

To finally end the night, we rode on a big motorcycle that's the most unique in our small city.  All of us went siksikan inside because the driver agreed to drop all of us to our respective destinations.

Oh my gosh, I think I just miss these kids.  Hehehe.....  Good luck in your summer classes, guys! :)

So if you're after for group dining with solid bonding, visit Dahon Boodle and Grill for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.  They're now open as early as 7:30 AM and also has a P59 chicken inasal meal with unlimited rice.  Do check 'em out! :)

Personal Collection's New Product Launch

Last Saturday, I was invited by Personal Collection Ozamiz for the launching of their new Nature's Way Aloe Vera System Shampoo with Conditioner.  The event was informational for we were given the do's and don't's in taking care or treating our hair.  Especially now that salon treatments are becoming cheaper with promos left and right, we easily get convinced to have our hair treated not knowing that such treatments can actually damage our hair.  So with this, it's better to go back to the basics.  And "basics" here means the natural way in taking care of our crowning glory.

With that, Personal Collection aims to promote nature's best for healthier and shinier hair!  It is not new to us that Aloe Vera has been used even by our ancestors to thicken their hair.  Aside from that, it also conditions and reduces dandruff.  With its tried and tested proven result, it is the main ingredient of Nature's Way Shampoo with Conditioner.  Moreover, the new products have chic and stylish packaging, come in 3 variants, and further improved with Italian olive oil.  So you don't only get thicker and healthier hair but also shinier and more manageable hair!  You can also save on salon treatments for you don't need hot oil nor hair cellophane anymore once you use Nature's Way regularly.

After the short talk and videos shown, parlor games were played for Personal Collection's ladies to enjoy!  The mommys, lolas, manangs, and ates including my storekeeper, Jing2x enjoyed the games and everybody got their prices as well as samples of Nature's Way Shampoo and Conditioner.

Thanks for the invites, Personal Collection Ozamiz! 'Till next time! :)

Wanna get to try Nature's Way Aloe Vera System Shampoo with Conditioner?  Visit Fascino along Gomez St., Ozamiz City (beside Mom's Sweet Delight, across Kinny's Bakeshop) for we are already a Franchise Associate Manager of Personal Collection Ozamiz!  See you! :)

Saturday Surprise: Emergency Outing at Lala's

Saturday Surprise is all about the good things in life ought to be celebrated!:)

Cuzzies Don2x and Vian arrived from Manila and Singapore respectively this week so they had an emergency plan for an outing yesterday.  Fortunately, I caught up with them before they left as I got home from school for lunch. I have finished my report in the morning and got dismissed by our teacher in the afternoon so I had the chance to go with them!  Then off to Lala's Eco Park we went!

I already featured Lala's last 2013 so better check my post here.  After 2 years, the place is still a beaut with an additional bigger pool as shown in the photo above.  Additionally, there is now a driveway from the main street directly to the resort compared before when there was still none.  It is more convenient to access the place now especially to the elderly who can have a hard time climbing up the stairs in going back.

Thank goodness, my Lala's experience for this afternoon was beyond compare!  We got to go deep down to the river and oh, la la!  The river was so clean and so cold.  I really regret for not swimming with Rio and Roxanne, for I wasn't dressed for swimming yet when we went down.  But they really did enjoy the Jacuzzi feeling in the river!

I would definitely go back to Lala's again so I could swim in the river and have proper pictorial.  All photos here are courtesy of Uncle Virgilio, Vian's father-in-law and Roxanne, cuzzy John Paul's wifey.  Thank you for this afternoon, fambam! :)

Visit Lala's Eco Park at Brgy. Montol, Ozamiz City for a relaxing out-of-the-city experience! :)

Welcoming the Heart Month with a Bang!

Oh, heart month!  Here you are again!  Here you are to put infliction to my heart again!  You've never been good to me!  Anyhow, I still have to welcome you as my colleague, Engr. Mark said in his FB status:

"FEBRUARY - Latid word 'februum' which means PURIFICATION
                      - from the ancient Roman purification ritual 'Februa'".

So you are not that bad at all.  That's why for this first day of your rule, I decided to "purify" myself.  Purify myself from the past, purify myself from the memories, purify myself from the pain and hurt.  Purify myself from him!  Yes, I still cried when I woke up this dawn at 5 AM.  Yes, I'm still faking my smiles.  Yes, I'm still broken and shattered.  But I have to carry on.  I have to move forward as what he'd done.  I have to gather myself up because the game is so so over!

I'm just glad that for today, I had some fun!  It's the first day of CAS Week as La Salle University's College of Arts and Sciences celebrates its 61st founding anniversary.  With that, we jumpstarted the festivities with a team building this afternoon.  We played a lot of fun games for the students and faculty to enjoy!

The Chinese Garter
The Hoola Hoop
The Face Powder
The Candy Crush
The Ball Shooting
The Phrase Guessing
The Step-Step
The Yell
Aside from the games, we also had water and paint war as the fad nowadays.  Everybody got painted and wet which added to the hype of the afternoon!

The Ruined Happy Shirt
Now I thank you, February 1 for the fun I had today!  Though still sad, I welcome you Heart Month!  I may still be solo but at least I have some company as I'm trying to heal my heart.

Stay tuned tomorrow for CAS Week's official opening program! :)

Saturday Surprise: A Weeklong Indulgence

Saturday Surprise is all about the good things in life ought to be celebrated!:)

I thought I'm not gonna have something to write for The Other Side of Mae's third year anniversary celebration.  As a matter of fact, I had started to write this:

"And it's The Other Side of Mae's 3rd year anniversary week!  Last year, I had a weeklong anniversary celebration.  Can I have something like that again this year?  But I doubt if I can.  As I'm gathering up my brains now, I cannot think of anything like that to post.  Now what is wrong with me?  Where is my creativity?  Where is my writing capability?!!!  I just can't think of ANYTHING!"

But I only saved that in draft because a sweet surprise suddenly came my way which paved way to a brilliant idea of a different kind of celebration!  And it is to roam around Ozamiz and see business establishments that I don't frequent because it's heavy enough for my pocket.  So here's what I did for The Other Side of Mae Year 3!

Sweet Treat from The Coffee Lounge
Got a Trim at Ai Sui House of Beauty
Had a Mexican Lunch at Mooon Cafe
Had a Swedish Massage at Thai Boran
To my surprise, I had completed another weeklong celebration that was never planned!  I never planned to splurge in only a week!  I never planned to squander money just to have sosyal blog posts but it made me feel good.  It made me experience a Patty Laurel life!  Feeling mayaman lang ang peg!  Can't this girl just have a break?!  Yeah, this has been a very selfish act but I'm no Abnegation.  Eversince I was selfish so, be it!  I'm even selfish to share my life with someone else.  Maybe this is the reason why I'm still single up to this date.  Hehe....

But anyway,

"Sometimes, people just want to be happy, even if it's not real."

Better @ 30: An After-Party Post!

another year
another life
another miracle
proud to reach the big 3 oh!

A week after my birthday, here I am mulling things over.  My conscious mind and physical body are a bit settled and it's a great time for some "me" moment and self reflection.  Just how great God is for giving me an extension to live with this mortal body in a mortal world.  Just how blessed I am for Him to give me all the chances to be better in every aspect of this borrowed life!

From the frail little girl I was, I had developed into this very healthy and confident woman I am today!  I could prove that since the last time I got sick was when I was in third year high school due to typhoid fever.  God forbid, that is really an achievement for me not to get sick in 15 whole years!

Proof #2, I can now express myself in whatever way I please!  I wear what I want, say what I want, and do what I want!  Although there are still some reservations, I can still say that I am confident compared with the little miss insecure me before!

Now how do I say that I got better?  The evidences are.....

.....my loving students who treat me not just a teacher to be respected but a friend to be treasured.

Advanced Birthday Celebration at Johann's Cuisine, Ozamiz City
Belated Birthday Celebration with My Junior Griffins at SM City, Cebu
.....my ever beautiful red roses who do not just support me but love and accept me for who I am.

Exact Birthday Celebration at Small Talk Café, Legazpi City
.....my dear colleagues who never fail to laugh at my loadingness and bloopers.

Belated Birthday Celebration at MUHS, Ozamiz City
.....and my ever supportive and loving family who's always there to shelter and mold me into a better individual who is God-fearing and peace-loving.

Belated Birthday Celebration at My Room, Ozamiz City
Three cakes = three decades.  As I blew my cakes, I wished for good health, long lives, and more love love love to all people who are surrounding me with great joy and great love!!!:)  No matter what role I play, I will still strive to be a better Miss Mae, better Pres Mae, and a better Ate Mae 'till my last breath!
