Reunited with My Medinians

I'm so happy today to have bonded with my Medina students again!  We went on a road trip to Mahayag to eat Mon's famous halo-halo!  This time, I loved their halo-halo even better 'coz it now includes sun-ripened mangoes!  The mangoes are so sweet, a sign of a good start of the season's bountiful harvest.  For a full account of my halo-halo experience at Mon's Grill, you may click here! :)

After doing our business at Mahayag, we drove back to Bonifacio for Pring2x's (oooppss, she's now a lady) Frency's thanksgiving celebration!  Yehey!!!  We have another registered pharmacist!  I am so proud every time I hear of my students' successes because their success is always and will always be also my success!

Thank you so much, guys for a Sunday well-spent!  Though we rarely see each other, you're still in my heart and in my thoughts!  I will always be your Miss Mae no matter how old you'll get!  You're turning older while I'm turning younger.  Hehe!!!  All the best to all of you as you face new challenges in life!  I love you! :)

Monday Matters: Top 3 Reasons Why One Should Choose Pharmacy

Monday Matters is dedicated to all things that matter.

Our youth today are fickle-minded!  This I've come to learn since I was seated in the position as an admission officer in Medina College.  They make decisions in a haste but change their minds instantly.  They are not focused on what they want and still rely on their friends' or parents' decision.  As such, incoming freshmen students are so undecided on what course they would take!  They want to be plenty of who-they-wanna-be in the future!  So as an aid to them, let me share these top three reasons why one should choose Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy:
                      
Reason #1  Be your own boss!

If you are the entrepreneurial type, the pharmacy business is one of the most profitable enterprises ever!  Medicines are always in demand because people do really get sick (well, this is just reality, right?).  You can never run out of customers in your pharmacy because medicines are needs, not wants!

Reason #2  Be a high paid industrial pharmacist!

If you are not that financially blessed in putting up your own biz, you can still get high salaries by being an industrial pharmacist where you can work in big pharmaceutical companies.  In here, your job is more like those of scientists where you conduct research and experiments and analyze the end results of the drugs or medicines manufactured.

Reason #3  Work abroad!

Pharmacists are now in demand in the US.  After the deluge of nurses hired abroad, pharmacists now go next in line!  Pharmacists abroad function as hospital pharmacists where they act as an essential part of clinical ward who provide the doctors and nurses effective advice on medicine use.  They are regarded as health care professionals who earn as much as the nurses do!
                                                                                           
So, I hope this post will give light to you my dear student readers.  Choose your course wisely so you won't end up wasting your time, money, and effort.  Enroll now at the School of Pharmacy in Medina College for a bright horizon in modern education!

#throwbackthursday

In lieu of Instagram’s famous hashtag #throwbackthursday, I had my first post today which was my first laboratory class at Medina College.  Oh, how time flies so fast!  I am now on my fourth year in teaching (part-time) General and Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Analytical Chemistry to BS in Pharmacy, BS in Medical Technology, and BS in Nursing students!  I couldn’t believe that I had gone this far in my teaching career!

Recalling the day when Ms. Felma “En2x” Luceño went to the store to ask me to substitute for her, I was so hesitant to say yes.  I was still on my second year teaching high school students and I  lack a great deal of experience in teaching.  Much more, I would be handling higher chemistry subjects which means needing a lot of mastery to teach.

Luckily, my first batch of students was so generous to consider, so eager to learn, and so diligent to study.  Together, we ended up Biochemistry and Analytical Chemistry with plenty of learning from each other.

Then came my second batch – my all-girl pharmacy group.  This time, I started Chem 1 and carefully laid out the foundation of chemistry with them. I wanted them to perfectly understand the whole context of chemistry that I became so tough to them.  Forgive me, dear students for the sleepless nights and group studies I caused you.  And as I had promised on the first day of our class, I really did finish you through until Chem 3.  Now that makes all of you my babies in chemistry.

Semester after semester, batch after batch, four shirts had said it all - my life goes on in Medina College.  Despite all my “lates” in coming to class (given that I would still be travelling from MUHS), my students would be there patiently waiting for me.  I am still overwhelmed with the feeling of fulfillment in imparting knowledge to every student who comes my way.

So for the next in line, look forward for tougher chemistry courses as we aim for the new and bright horizon in modern education.  But guaranteeing that we’ll play a lot more in the laboratory!

Pharmacy White Coat Ceremony

Candle Lighting and Pledge of Professionalism
The Medina College School of Pharmacy held its White Coat Ceremony last August 4, 2012 at Plaza Beatriz Hotel.  White Coat Ceremony is a wonderful and meaningful tradition in which the school of pharmacy present to their student pharmacists a white coat, the symbol of clinical service and care.  The ceremony started with an invocation led by the first year students followed by a welcome address by the Dean of Pharmacy, Mrs. Carolina Balberan, RPh.  

Then a message from the guest speaker, Mrs. Leilani Bugas-Barrera, RPh, Dean of Pharmacy at Lanao School of Science and Technology was heard.  She thoroughly explained the significance of White Coat Ceremony in taking on the responsibility of being professional pharmacists in the near future.

In lieu of the guest speaker's message, Dr. Danilo Daniel, PhD, Vice President for Academic Affairs of Medina College gave an inspirational talk to encourage the students to pursue their dream.  He stressed that any person should never give up in following his/her dream.  

I had the privilege to be the master of ceremony! :)

So for my dear students, always bear in mind what Mrs. Barrera and Dr. Daniel told you to become full-pledged pharmacists.  You have to value hard work in order for you to reap its sweet fruit.

Congratulations, students!  You are now embarking to a higher level in your pursuant on becoming registered pharmacists!
