Katutubong Kasuotan Then and Now

In celebration of Buwan ng Wika, La Salle University had decreed a Katutubong Kasuotan Day a few years back.  Since I failed to post a story on this last year, I'd like to take this opportunity to post one now before the month-long celebration ends.

So here's my first ever photo with my Lasallian students.  They were my Physics 1 laboratory class, 1st sem of SY 2013-2014.  They are IT students who don't like physics and just want to create programs instead.

The next photo is the class wherein I had my first ever class observation by a seasoned teacher before PAASCU inspection last year.  My students were only a few that I didn't have any problem with classroom management.

To end that day of last year, here's my night class wherein I had my first (and hopefully last) ghost encounter in La Salle.  I nearly fainted at that time!

And now, here's my new batch of IT students.  They are still very kulit like high school kids!  I could say that they are having that identity crisis wherein they are confused whether they are still kids or already grown-ups.  They goof around during lab time especially Roy!  This group is just so hilarious!

Last but not least, here's my all-girls Physics class.  They are education students whom I could consider the class that has the biggest improvement in dealing with Physics.  Looking back last prelim, they were sooooo l-o-a-d-i-n-g.  But now, we can connect easily like bluetooth and are already on the same page!

Occasions as rare as this gives us the opportunity to take photos.  Isn't it great that once in a year, we're gonna pay tribute to our nationality?  Through this, we are teaching our children the value of patriotism.  Wearing our katutubong kasuotan enables us to feel the true heart of being a Filipino.

But I wonder what I'm gonna wear next year.....

2013 and 2014 OOTD
I never thought I'd be wearing these costumes from a long time ago! Left was worn last 2003 for a chorale compet which our college won 2nd place and right was last 2004 for folk dance which we also won 1st place! Then I was never a total geek in college after all....

Squeeze that Cheez

And my favorite spread in the world got its new packaging!  Presenting to you, easy squeeze packs from Cheez Whiz!!!  It is now so handy to bring cheesiness around.  If you're going to a picnic, this is now the perfect baon as sandwich spread, dip to chips, topping to other dishes, or viand itself paired with rice as I'm fond of having.

In the same way as Eden Cheese, Cheez Whiz is also loaded with minerals, vitamins, and proteins as I've written here.  It also comes in pimiento variant for that different kind of twist.

Aside from the easy squeeze packs, Cheez Whiz is now also available in sachets which makes it so affordable to all moms on a budget!  So for moms out there, give your children their daily calcium needs in a delicious way.  Sneak in Cheez Whiz sachets inside their bags for them to enjoy a Cheez Whiz merienda at school!  And if you want to experiment on Cheez Whiz, visit their website here for fun recipes of this oh-so yummy cheesy goodness.

Saturday Surprise: A Weeklong Indulgence

Saturday Surprise is all about the good things in life ought to be celebrated!:)

I thought I'm not gonna have something to write for The Other Side of Mae's third year anniversary celebration.  As a matter of fact, I had started to write this:

"And it's The Other Side of Mae's 3rd year anniversary week!  Last year, I had a weeklong anniversary celebration.  Can I have something like that again this year?  But I doubt if I can.  As I'm gathering up my brains now, I cannot think of anything like that to post.  Now what is wrong with me?  Where is my creativity?  Where is my writing capability?!!!  I just can't think of ANYTHING!"

But I only saved that in draft because a sweet surprise suddenly came my way which paved way to a brilliant idea of a different kind of celebration!  And it is to roam around Ozamiz and see business establishments that I don't frequent because it's heavy enough for my pocket.  So here's what I did for The Other Side of Mae Year 3!

Sweet Treat from The Coffee Lounge
Got a Trim at Ai Sui House of Beauty
Had a Mexican Lunch at Mooon Cafe
Had a Swedish Massage at Thai Boran
To my surprise, I had completed another weeklong celebration that was never planned!  I never planned to splurge in only a week!  I never planned to squander money just to have sosyal blog posts but it made me feel good.  It made me experience a Patty Laurel life!  Feeling mayaman lang ang peg!  Can't this girl just have a break?!  Yeah, this has been a very selfish act but I'm no Abnegation.  Eversince I was selfish so, be it!  I'm even selfish to share my life with someone else.  Maybe this is the reason why I'm still single up to this date.  Hehe....

But anyway,

"The Other Side of Mae" @ 3 Day 5: Had a Swedish Massage at Thai Boran

As a finale to The Other Side of Mae's weeklong anniversary celebration, I splurged more on a relaxing Swedish massage at Thai Boran! This is my first time to have a full body massage in a massage parlor. I am used to have massages since childhood by a traditional hilot. When meds didn't get me well whenever I was sick, only the manong/manang hilot could do the cure. And now that I am sick (a different kind of sick), I tried a sosyal hilot to make me feel good. Hehe.....

Visit Thai Boran at Timesquare, Juan Luna St., Ozamiz City!

"The Other Side of Mae" @ 3 Day 4: Had a Mexican Lunch at Mooon Cafe

And we're officially at three! Hurrah to loyal blog readers, frequent blog visitors, and by-chance blog stumblers! Thank you so much for keeping this blog alive! Though sometimes I don't get to see good statistics on some posts, still I am grateful for the patience and consideration you have in reading me. (Sniff, sniff)  And for this day, I got to celebrate my third year blogging through a solitary lunch date at Mooon Cafe. Since there's still no one to fly me to the moon yet, I think this will do. Solo dates with myself isn't alien to me while waiting for that someone to moon with. Hehehe....

Visit Mooon Cafe along JP Rizal St., Ozamiz City!

"The Other Side of Mae" @ 3 Day 3: Purchased a New Pair at Spruce

My one and only Hava pair is now ancient! I had been using it since 2009 and it is now ailing. As always, I have second thoughts on splurging but doing this once in a while won't hurt my pocket, right? Hehe... So on this third day of celebration, I decided to get another pair for me to use for another five years again! Lol!!! That's how tipid this girl is!

Visit Spruce along Capistrano St., Ozamiz City for authentic Havaianas slippers and other brands.

"The Other Side of Mae" @ 3 Day 2: Got a Trim at Ai Sui House of Beauty

Sneaked into Ai Sui during lunch break to have my hair trimmed. FYI, I rarely visit salons because it's a luxury for me. I don't know but though it makes me feel good, I still don't see the necessity into pampering myself in a salon at an expense. However, it's The Other Side of Mae's third year anniv so might as well celebrate!

Visit Ai Sui House of Beauty along Gomez St. and DABA, Ozamiz City and bring out the confidence in you!

Spiritual Sunday: Happy Church Bongbong Outreach Turned 1!

Spiritual Sunday teaches all about life and our Big Boss.

From this to that, the Happy Church Bongbong Outreach had turned one year old, Saturday of last week!

God has been so faithful and true to His promise that aside from the added fence around the bible study center were three new houses given to three new families who just recently joined the fellowship in Bongbong.

With this, a celebration of thanksgiving was held together with the blessing of the houses.  Songs of praises were offered to Jehovah Jireh, God the provider.

After the prayers and praises was the fellowship with the entire servants of God of Happy Church Ministries spearheaded by Pastor Elvie Go with outreach leader Ma. Lourdes T. Putis.

Then what's a celebration without food?  All members of the outreach had managed to offer three lechons for the whole congregation to share!

And my favorite part was kulitan with the kids!

Truly, God has taken us step by step into His glory.  He's not yet done on us for we are still on process.  Praise be to God for one year and counting!!!!!

Dreaming of an Afternoon English Tea Party

Two months from now and I'll be turning 3_!  Huwaaatttt???!!!!  Now I feel napag-iwanan na ng panahon.  This just creeps on me these days.  When friends are celebrating monthsaries and anniversaries with their special someone, I'm celebrating mine with Fascino.  When friends are posting pics of their babies, I'm posting pics of my merchandise.  Yeah, I may have a career, money, and all the love and support of my family but still, there's something missing.  But I don't wanna talk about this tonight.  I already promised here in my blog not to post nega stuffs and I just want all to be joy, joy, joy.  So allow me to share to you my thoughts on how I would like to celebrate my 3_!

Two years ago, we booked tickets to Albay for our JCI national convention which by chance fell on the week of my birthday!  So I decided to throw a small party for my Red Roses with Mt. Mayon as our backdrop right on Kagsawa ruins.  I imagined a little picnic in the garden with my ladies donning their frilly dresses and brim hats to make it something like an English tea party!  You know how I love tea so much and I would like them to experience tea the way that I do.  Then we're gonna be having muffins and cupcakes with some sort of activity like designing your own cakes and take unlimited photos of our outfits and the place.  It would be a fun-filled afternoon delight as I dreamed of but that didn't come to pass.....

Like, hey!  That's Mt. Mayon with plenty of visitors and you're not gonna have privacy 'coz it's a public place and who's gonna take care of the tables, chairs, tea sets, tea, and cupcakes?  We're not from there and we don't know anyone from there who weren't busy at that time.  I couldn't request the host chapter for assistance of course because they were already taking care of thousands of delegates from all over the country.  So that dream was just left as a dream.....  Can I have that dream materialize this year?

Oh, how I wish to taste this sweet dream!  Afternoon English tea party, do come into a reality!  <3

Fascino Store @ 5!

Exactly five years ago, we opened Fascino along Gomez St., Ozamiz City.  Time just flies soooo fast as I always say and here we are, still standing proud of keeping the biz at pace.  From a cramped little corner at Centrum Department Store which we opened last June 5, 2009,

Blessing at Centrum
to a cute pink shop in our former little house, Fascino had gone through the tests of times.  (For the complete history, see Here Comes the Fascino Store of My Fascino.)

Inauguration and Soft Opening
Truly, running a business is not an easy task much more to a non-business person like me.  I never had any business training and I didn't have appropriate knowledge in putting up one.  What I just had was a dream - a dream of giving my family better living.  So despite the downside of the business, I fought for it and we also triumphed the trials by God's blessings!

Fascino's First Christmas
Fascino's First Valentine's <3
With that, we had a thanksgiving last November 6, 2010 wherein we also had a relaunching of the brand and a shooting for Fascino's first TV ad as well.

Relaunching of Fascino's New Look
And so the store became known not just in Ozamiz but also the whole province of Misamis Occidental.  However, we were still striving in marketing our products and in making sales.  Well, it's reality that apparel and fragrances are not needs but luxuries especially to people in our city who are only earning just enough to meet daily commodities.  Sales were not really good so we added party needs and balloons to our merchandise on August 25, 2012!

Party Needs and Balloons Added to the Store
Luckily, the idea of including party needs and balloons saved Fascino from going into its downfall.  I couldn't say that it's totally a downfall because we were not bankrupt.  It's just that, we were only break-even with the fragrances and apparel.  And fortunately with the party supplies, we began profiting!  People came to recognize and we also entered balloon arrangement.

Extension of the Store to Accommodate Balloon Orders
From a bare, clean, pink store in its opening in 2009 to a lush, embellished, blue store in its happy days in 2010 to a messy, dusty, rubber-smelling bigger store in its bountiful days at present, Fascino may have different looks but still instills its goal by heart.  And this is to be a channel of blessings to others.

Fascino and Friends
So apart from my family who are always there to support me since day one, thank you so much to all my storekeepers - Hayde, Len2x, Glaiza, Tata, Mary (who served for only a week), Mispha (who served for two months whom I kicked out for not remitting all the balloon sales), and Cecile who just came in today.  A big "thank you" to the in-betweeners who had filled up the store in my absence - Christ, Annalyn, Deo, and Alvite.  To my forever suki Ann2x and my frequent visitor Hannah.  To my MUHS gang - Yieldeza, Irish, Cheryl, Ate Aida, Rhea, Rene, and Charelle.  And of course, to my MUHS kids who are so kulit every time they pay a visit to the store.  Last but not least, special thanks to that special someone who had made this store a once happy place. :)  It's not that this place is not happy now.  It's just that, here is an empty seat, an empty store, and an empty me.  Though I had planned for a renovation last year, I couldn't move yet because I don't have that fuel to do so like before.  You know where to find me.....

And above all else, thank you so much to Papa Jesus for the realization of my dream and for all the bountiful blessings that you had showered upon us!  Thank you for the creative mind and creative hands you had bestowed upon us and these we use for your glory!
